Fan Platform
Subscription or tip-based sites where creators sell photos, clips, and messages directly to fans.
What it means
Fan platforms sit beside traditional makers. They shift some economic power and risk onto individual creators, and they raise familiar questions about privacy, leaks, and long-term stigma.
History / origin
As social media and payment rails matured, adult-adjacent creators used membership models similar to overseas creator economies, adapted to Japanese payment and age-verification norms.
How the term is used in Japan
Japanese coverage often discusses fan platforms in the same breath as AV career changes, side work, or post-retirement income. The vocabulary is still settling.
Common misunderstandings
- Fan platforms are not identical with studio AV production.
- A creator page is not automatically safer or less regulated than a label release.
