The standard

JPGRL is intended for adults aged 18 years and over. The subject of the magazine is Japanese adult culture: history, language, media, and public figures. That subject is not appropriate for children.

On a first visit, JPGRL displays an access notice asking you to declare that you are 18 or older. Selecting Yes records that declaration in an HttpOnly cookie named jpgrl_age_declared (value true) so the notice is not repeated while the cookie remains valid (up to one year). Selecting No does not remember the answer across visits; a later return shows the notice again. After a Yes declaration, a small 18+ mark remains in the masthead.

What this notice is — and is not

The access notice is a self-declaration. JPGRL does not check government ID, payment cards, biometric data, or any third-party age-assurance service for this gate. Saying Yes means you are stating that you are 18 or older; it does not mean JPGRL has verified your age.

We do not describe this gate as age verification. If a future market or partner requires stronger age assurance, this policy and the notice will be updated before that mechanism is used.

What we publish

We aim to write in an editorial register: explanatory, non-explicit, and without pornographic imagery. The absence of explicit pictures does not change the audience. The culture being explained is still an adult culture.

If you are under 18

If you are under 18, you must not use JPGRL. Selecting No on the access notice leads to a screen with no editorial content. That answer is not stored for later visits, so the notice appears again if you return.
